Finding the right home for a loved one who has dementia is probably one of the most important decisions of your life. You might have just discovered that they have dementia, perhaps it was diagnosed after a serious fall or the result of a check-up after a spell of forgetfulness. Maybe you have been struggling to cope as the primary carer for some time. Whatever the reason, it will certainly be a distressing time and you are likely to have many questions.

You can feel reassured that we are here to help. Our credentials are solid. Not only do we have many valuable years of experience looking after people living with dementia, we genuinely care. We understand the fears you might be experiencing. We recognise the vital importance of choosing the right home, and more often than not, the absolute urgency of this. We will work with you every step of the way, not only to address your concerns but also to build your trust.

Nursing and Medical Care

Our person-centred nursing care approach means that you will be respected as an individual and treated with dignity. All our residents have their own personal care plan, which recognises their individual needs and wishes. The personal care plan also documents all aspects of medical care you need and ensures consistency and continuity of nursing care. Nurses are on duty at all times, we receive visits from our GP on a weekly basis.

Social Activities

Activities are available in all areas of the home and staff understand the value of providing a stimulating environment and acknowledging that any 'task' can become a meaningful activity with the positive support.

We will find out what type of activities that a person likes to be involved in whether in house or in the community. These may include crafts, games, music, reminiscence, reading, relaxation, gentle fitness.

We also arrange for entertainers to come in the home; musicians, dancers, pantomimes, and even local historians to give talks. We also have 'Buttons' the pat-a-dog and a hairdresser who come once a week and a massage therapist who comes once a month. We understand that everybody is different which is why we offer a choice of activities and can tailor activities to the individual choice.

Our meals are all prepared freshly here at Crann Mor. Residents are offered choices and special dietary needs are met. Mealtimes are a leisurely affair and staff are available to assist residents when required. We have recognized that many of our residents have their best appetite of the day at breakfast time.

Resident nutrition is given a high priority to ensure optimum health and monitoring of weights is carried out on a monthly basis. Any significant weight gain or loss is investigated and brought to the attention of the resident's own General Practitioner so that appropriate action may be taken.
